Flatiron, Fries and Freud

The Flatiron Building in the sun

We did not walk in the park today but headed straight over to the Lincoln Center Cinema to see the new Woody Allen movie, Midnight in Paris. The NY movie theaters have very tiny screens but once the movie starts you forget about it. We both enjoyed the movie. I especially did since I had just finished the book The Paris Wife about Hemingway living in Paris.

We have been wanting to try Shake Shack in Madison Square Park so we headed down there after the movie. The line was probably 30 yards long and it took about 45 minutes for us to make our way finally to the window to order. Then it took about 15 minutes for our food to be prepared. But the it was worth the wait!

The burgers were like something your mom would have fixed back in the 60's. It was a hand-made patty that came with whatever fixings you wanted. The fries were the best, although, personally, I've never met a potato, especially a fried one, I didn't love.

In certain parts of the city you can see these old water towers on tops of the buildings.

After eating, we walked down to Union Square to the market. We just walked around and looked. We were too full for any of it to make us hungry.

Then we headed back uptown. We went to an off-Broadway play, Freud's Last Session, which was near our apartment close to Lincoln Center. It was a two-man play imagining a meeting between Freud near the end of his life and C.S. Lewis as a young professor. Tony and I both enjoyed the thought-provoking dialogue as men with two great minds discussed/debated the existence of God. Then after the play we made a stop at Whole Foods and went back to the apartment.

  1. I can't believe you said that about potatoes!! That's MY line! Nothing like a good French fry, baked potato, mashed potato, potatoes au gratin, hash brown, etc. The only thing I might enjoy more is a great slice/loaf of crusty whole-grain bread with real butter. Maybe it's an addiction...

    BTW, happy 30th!
