More of the Same

Kara Walker's Sugar Baby

Domino Sugar Plant, Brooklyn

Kara Walker has created a sugar sculpture in the old Domino Sugar plant which is soon to be demolished.  The "sphinx" is an homage to the slave labor that brought sugar from the cane fields.
The photo above is primarily to show the inside of the plant and to illustrate the size of the sculpture.

We took the train to Beacon, New York, to visit Dia: Beacon.

A visit to The Met included a trip to the Roof Garden where we took great pictures of the fog over the city.

Here we are reflected in the windows of the Roof Garden!

We had to stop by Tony's favorite painting and say hello to Joan.

Conservatory Water in Central Park

We took the tram over to Roosevelt Island and strolled along the banks of the East River watching the  city lights slowly come on.  The picture below is a panoramic photo which is why it has a curved appearance.

The Williamsburg Bridge and the tram

This photo was taken from inside the tram as we approached the station at 2nd Avenue and 60th Street.

Walking home, we noticed how beautiful the Helmsley Building was all lit in blue!

Graduation Gastronomy and General NYC Gaiety

New York City

Approaching the city by way of the Triborough Bridge, I snapped this through the cab window.

I happened to be in NYC for a friend's son's graduation from Columbia.  We worked in a few things other than graduation ceremonies and celebrations...

...like a trip to the Williamsburg Flea Market

...and a walk in the park where we ran across this jerk

...and a trip to Sprinkles for a cupcake

...and a trip MoMA.

Here I am with the graduate, Hunter!

Time for photos after Class Day

For nostalgic purposes, I had to snap a photo of this dorm where Hannah lived the summer she took the painting intensive at Columbia.

The Empire State Building was ablaze in Columbia blue and white the evening of Commencement!

The BubbleMan does his thing on the mall!

...and then two guys in a banana drove by.

A Day of the Italian Life on Arthur Avenue in The Bronx

The market with every kind of fish, meat, vegetable, pasta, olive oil, olive or sweet you could imagine an Italian might need for dinner preparation...there was even a man rolling cigars at the front

Next door a wall of biscotti!

"Leave the gun; take the cannoli."
Wonderful cappuccino, cannoli, biscotti and amaretti cookies at Marrone's Bakery after a rather large lunch at Dominick's

"All you need is love!"
Tony, Bill and me at the Robert Indiana LOVE sculpture

Brunch at Buvette!  Doesn't get any better!

More of Central Park

I enjoy walking around the reservoir and Tony enjoys running around it!

Tickets for Jazz at Lincoln Center... John Pizzarelli and Jane Monheit

Getting ready to hear jazz in the awesome Appel Room (Allen Room)!  50' X 90' wall of glass gives you a view of Columbus Circle and looking east "down" 59th Street.

Evening walk by the Plaza

Dinner at I Sodi with Aaron and Soo

...and another meal with them enjoying Korean BBQ!

Headed home from Williamsburg after Peter Luger...Looking out the window you can see the east side of Manhattan, looking north from the Williamsburg Bridge and you can see the reflection of the inside of the subway with a very tired passenger maybe heading home

Dessert first although of course we ate the steak and fries first!

You order a steak at Peter Luger's by how many it is to feed...not by the cut.  They are all T-bones.
It would be a lumberjack's dream meal!
