Snow-Covered Everything

Our flight from Shreveport via Memphis was completely normal. It was as if there had never been a big snow storm. We actually got to LaGuardia early but couldn't get to the gate. We sat on the runway for over an hour waiting for a gate to open up. Finally we got off the plane, got our luggage and headed to the taxi line, which was, no joke, at least 75 yards long. It went rather quickly though. In about an hour we were in a cab headed into Manhattan.

The cab driver said the main avenues in Manhattan were fine but the side streets were still covered with ice and snow. He said Queens was a complete mess. Once we got past all the airport traffic, we were fine.

We were so tired. Hannah said she actually finished packing and went to bed last night at 2:00 AM. Tony and I went to bed around 12:30. We were all up by 5:00 so we were very tired. We had not eaten, but we just rested in the hotel and then got dressed for dinner.

We took a cab to Casa Lever which is in the Lever House, built for the Lever Brothers soap comapny and located on Park Avenue and 53rd Street. The cab driver let us out in the middle of the block which was a problem. You just couldn't get over the snow drifts! (Well, not really drifts but piles of snow from the plows that cleared the street.) We had to walk to the corner just to get to the sidewalk! The food at Casa Lever was wonderful. The restaurant is decorated with 19 original Andy Warhol prints from a series of 111.

We had been seated for maybe 5 minutes when Hannah looked at us with big eyes and said, very calmly, "Woody Allen is sitting at the table right next to us." She had a perfect view and watched him all evening.

Here we are outside the restaurant.

We walked home. It was about a mile. It felt good to walk after such a big meal. At every intersection though, we had to climb across piles of snow or walk through slush.

Here's Hannah walking along very carefully.

There would be a few breaks in the snow drifts where workers had cleared a path for the busses. The amount of snow was ridiculous.

We're tired and will head out tomorrow after we've rested.
