Nuremberg and the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal

We spent the night on the ship in Nuremberg and then this morning we headed out for a quick tour of the city, stopping first at the Nazi Parade Grounds.  Our guide showed us old pictures from before the start of WWII with Hitler and the thousands of German soldiers in formation.  The "monument" to the Third Reich was crumbling, the colonnade already gone.  The final satisfying blow to the parade ground stop came as we were pulling out onto the street named Yitzhak Rabin.

Below is a photo of the parade grounds in use by the Germans before WWII.

Nuremberg Castle

The city of Nuremberg spreads out before us as we walk through he castle tunnel.

Going through the canal locks was really cool.  Here we are approaching our first lock (we went through around 20 before actually hitting the Danube).

Here we are inside the lock as the water begins to rise from underneath, bringing us to the water level of the next section of the canal.

Here's Tony sitting on our balcony as we are inside a lock.

Below is a photo Tony took as we were coming up.

And this is the million dollar prize-winning sculpture marking the "continental divide" of the canal, the place where to the north the locks take the ships up and to the south the locks take them down.
